s the transfer window is now wide open I want to share my opinion on what might happen at the club over the summer.
So far we have signed 5 players; Tom King, Kyle Howkins, Lazar Stojsavljevic, Marvel Ekpiteta and most recently Daniel Leadbitter. I personally think that some of these signings are replacing players who have left; Regan Poole and Dan Butler for example, and players who are out of contract including Joe day and Micky Demetriou.
King is an ideal replacement for Joe day who is highly likely to move on and is rumoured to be going to Cardiff city in the Championship. While I haven't heard any specific rumors about Mickey leaving, I believe that he is too good for us as a League Two club. All of the other signings provide decent options for Mike Flynn across the back line.
If we had won the play-off final at Wembley, I think that the players who are out of contract e.g. Butler, Day etc. would have stayed. I think Leadbitter will end up playing right wing-back which will allow Robbie Willmott to play in central midfield, a role he filled a few times towards the end of the 18/19 season.
In my opinion I think we need to sign a left back/wing back to replace Dan butler, one or two new midfielders because we were poor in the centre of the park many times last season. However, when Josh Sheehan played towards the end of the season we were better; he could be key for the new campaign. Also I think we need a winger. This will allow us to play another way if things aren't going our way in the game. If we can make one or two good loan signings like we did last season with Antoine Semenyo and Ben Kennedy, then this will boost our promotion bid for next season.
